Smart reminder notifications to train on workout days

Marc David 7 years ago updated by Carl Juneau, PhD 4 years ago 8

I'd like the app to remind me when to train. On the best day. Maybe like this:

"Hey Marc you're supposed to work out today!"
[Workout Now]
[Remind me in 2 hours]
[Remind me tomorrow]

Other workout apps do it (like 100 push-up type of apps).

Hi guys! We released this one some time ago, but it looks like I missed updating the feature request. To set workout reminders, do this:

If you are specific on your workout days perhaps.  But what about 'Day 1, Day 2' etc planning for those who train when life allows? :)  I mean, how the app would distinguish this, or would it be annoying for the customer to be reminded on a completely random day?  Devil's advocate here, nothing wrong with your suggestion, of course!

Hey Nick :)

Here's how I see it:

You're doing full-body workouts, 3 days a week.

You workout on day 1 (whichever day that is).

2 days later, app tells you to workout again. That's optimal for recovery and supercompensation. If you can, you work out on that day. If you can't, you ask the app to "remind me tomorrow".

Would that be annoying do you?

It's not an issue of being annoying to Me or not -OK, we've cleared that :)

Was just wondering how it would work.  What you suggest based on 3d/wk sounds fine, but what about 4d/wk?  If it's a split upper/lower X2/wk, it would suggest the next day for the next workout of day 2 and a couple of days later for day 3 etc?  Perhaps a manual reminder could work better, if you want to go ahead with that?  Most people have fixed days for training perhaps, but if not, better have the option there?  Not sure (thinking something similar to iOS Reminders with the "i" next to each reminder you make, re: the manual option).

Marc has probably answered that, I think, by adding the option "Remind me tomorrow", duh!  Just noticed, lol!  Sorry guys!  That could work, too, I guess, yes!

Glad we're clear :)

4-d/w would be:

Monday

Tuesday

Thursday

Friday

Ideally. But people can always "Remind me tomorrow", yes.

Always the option within the app to "turn off" reminders so that people who train when life allows, are never bothered and for those that need it or want it, it's an option.  That's how I thought of it.

I mean the stopwatch is there if you need it.. I just use the watch on my wrist but it's a good option for those people who don't still wear a watch.

Hi Carl (and others),

Reason I am writing is I would lose my motivation and stop training, that's why I joined your app in the first place, now before Christmas I was really enjoying training and your app but since Christmas I did not train for over 2 weeks.

If this was any one else they would cancel the payments and leave.

I think it would be a good idea if you would notify people who have not trained in several days.

This would of been perfect for me for someone who loses motivation and there's a lot of people just like me out there, so I voted this +1.

Kind regards
Tim

Work out notifications and interaction: I’m a very disciplined man and I do 3 days a week weight training sessions with a day of rest in between each one. However to make ir more like a personal trainer a little more interaction with the App would help. “Time to go to the Gym” sent as a message or notification. If the person doesn't go then the next day “Ok, you took a break yesterday, let’s go to the Gym today”. In the gym notifications can be “in your last workouts you focused on X, today let's work hard on Y”.
