more detailed equipment choices during questionnaire

Bob Ruff 1 year ago updated by Carl Juneau, PhD 10 months ago 6

When going through the initial questionnaire, I feel that a lot more detail is needed in the choice of equipment. Now I'm not expecting every piece of equipment ever, but if you choose gym, the dropdown choices should at least include a squat rack, incline/decline bench, lat pulldown machine, leg curl and leg extension. I know technically they fall under the category of pulleys etc, but basic gym equipment should be a choice. Along the same lines, I work out at home as well, and there should be more options. For example, instead of just dumbbells and bodyweight, I have a flat and incline bench.

Hi guys,

Thanks for your honest feedback. I appreciate it, and I can confirm we're committed to enhancing the equipment customization feature to better meet your needs.

We are constantly working on improving the app, and we continue to release new updates every week (https://dr-muscle.com/timeline). Recently, we have focused on enhancing the cardio feature based on a suggestion that received about twice the votes as this one.

I get that detailed equipment choices are important to you. Balancing everyone's demands can be challenging, and we continue to prioritize implementing suggestions with the highest number of votes to benefit the majority of our users.

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. I look forward to improving this feature for you.

Best,

Carl

I 100% Agree with @Bob Ruff.  A good example of how this is already done in other apps... the FitBod App.  That app does a great job of letting the user design multiple workout locations where the app will know exactly how to design that day's workout based on the location selected. Instantly within seconds the user can begin working out on the already known equipment, the seat settings, the number of plates available at that location and the various other types of equipment.  It saves a lot of time without the user having to find 'workarounds' to what they think the app is asking them to do.  Dr. Muscle team... please do something similar to what the FitBod app offers with this type of functionality.

Hi Bob,

Your points are well taken, and I look forward to this getting more votes for we can implement more equipment customizations for you.

Lou, based on your comment here and one of your emails, I'm guessing you haven't seen the Gym profile feature. Just tap Settings and Change equipment to view it. With that said, I agree we could integrate that one more into the initial account setup (which is already a bit long...). It's a delicate balance, but we'll at least add a mention of it in one of our next updates. That's easy to do.

Thanks very much for your suggestions guys.

Stay strong in 2024,

Carl

Hi Carl,

I've been working with Victoria for the past several months and want to mention the equipment profile feature is broken. I have provided screen recorded videos of numerous instances where the exercises loaded in a given workout do not correspond to the equipment configured in the equipment profile.

Therefore, I respectfully disagree that this feature would come close to meeting the ideas shared here.

This app has tried to implement some amazing features but after nearly 3 years using this app I'm finding the features to be buggy or not completely implemented (e.g. equipment profiles, supersets).

The equipment profile issue, specifically, has recently been crucial to my workouts as I have designed my routine to be a combination of gym and home workouts. I've been offered workarounds to use the home programs since this feature is not working. While that is a reasonable stoogap, after nearly 8 months since the issue was first reported, I've seen no progress.

Other app's full lineup of equipment per location customization was particularly useful for my home workouts. It allowed me to accurately represent my home gym setup in the app, which made the workouts more tailored to my specific situation. Most apps only give you a “Gym” or “Home Gym” choice, and the “Home Gym” option often only includes a bunch of bands or low-end dumbbells. Fitbod solved this problem for me. When I saw Dr. Muscle's location training selections, I saw it was the same generic "Gym" or "Home" and when I dove into each, there was no indication of what equipment each location selection would give me. It wasn't intuitive as to what I was doing with this function; which leads me to the next point.

I have used FitBod for 2-3 years and agree the equipment selection settings are FAR superior than Dr Muscle. ALSO, multiple workouts can be set up in FitBod without losing existing or current workouts.
