Account for longer periods of rest / time off between workouts

Ciarán Sheehan 7 years ago updated by Carl Juneau, PhD 5 years ago 8

Really loving the app.

Is there an accounting for longer periods of rest days?  As a singer and actor I find lifting on days I'm singing to be detrimental to my level of performance or if I'm traveling for concerts there may be times when there may be a week away from the gym.  Just curious.

Best, Ciarán

I'm not really sure exactly what your asking, but for me personally...if I'm out of town, or had to work really late, and I have to skip the gym, I just pick up the next day where I left off.

Posting this for Marc David:

Whatever workout I pick, let's say the 3 Day Full Body... as it stands now, the app does a nice job of reminding me it's time to workout.

However, if I take a week off.. or more...

I'd like to know my "trainer" knows the timeframe of my last workout and will auto-adjust so I don't start off like a race horse right out of the gate.

For example.. if I take a week off.. it might see it's been a while since my last workout and adjust.. 60% recommendations?

If I take a week off, I don't start my workouts exactly where I left off.

Am I making sense?

I travel a  lot and at times I cannot work out for a week - 10 days. I'd like the will the app i.e algorythem consider this so I shall start with lower weights to get the body used to the work out again.

If I just did two days in a row (upper/lower) the app should tell me to take a day off. If I logged three in a row, it should tell met to stop being an overachiever and remind me that rest is an important part of the process.

How to prevent overtraining? hmm guess this is difficult and a dilema, but I could see a suggestion of how much rest time would be sensible. However the trouble arises if I do cardio on my off days and literally work out 7 days a week, the app will not see the cardio but bear witness only when I train with the app. It opens then different issues, what if I’m a trained athlete, my rest time behaviour will / should be different than a beginner etc

I agree, I also do light cardio or yoga/stretch on my off days as I’m trying to burn body fat. Im concerned about overtraining.

We've begun working on this.
