Switch from rest-pause to normal sets

Heiko Widemann 6 years ago updated by Carl Juneau, PhD 5 years ago 10

I would appreciate if there is a switch between “normal” and rest-pause. Because I prefer deadlifts with classic sets and reps. Is it possible that you can implement this option? So for example when I click on a exercise I can also switch to “normal”.

We've just released normal sets! Normal sets:

- Are better for strength development
- Can be safer for multi-joint lifts (especially if you carry them to failure)
- Downside: they take more time

The update is already available on Android and under review by Apple (give it 2-3 days). To update, visit the app store app on your phone, search for Dr. Muscle, and tap "update".

If you get a "Connection error" message after you update, please log out and log back in. That should solve it.

By the way, I hate to say it, but we're aware of small bug with the timer's "automatch reps" feature (only for normal sets). Because of the bug, it won't time 2 to 3 minutes even when the app recommends that. To get around the bug, toggle "automatch reps" off and set the timer manually to 2-3 minutes. We're working on that bug, and it will be fixed soon.

Thank you for patience and support as we improve the app, and for voting for this feature. if you can spare the time, now would be a good time to vote for our next feature. You can do so here: https://muscle.userecho.com/communities/1-submit-your-feedback/topics#.

Thanks!

I agree that we should be able to apply rest-pause to individual exercises instead of it being applied to our entire workout program, and there should be a way to switch back to the normal sets and reps without rest-pause being imposed on our entire workout program.

I love the app and think its one of the best I have seen but this turning exercise, rep, and set into a rest-pause set is a deal breaker for me and if it is not fixed I don't know if I will keep it or not because this was implemented in a way that changes your entire workout program into nothing but a rest-pause workout. Therefore until it is fixed I will just go back to pencil and paper because as it stands now the app is useless.

I would also like to this at least for deloads, because with the rest pause techniques on deloads, it feels like I am doing almost nothing at all.

Planned

Hi guys,

This suggestion is getting a lot of votes, so I'm marking it as "planned".

For now, you can still do normal sets using the app. Here's how:

- Set a manual timer for 3 minutes
- Toggle off timer option "Automatch reps"
- For each exercise, your first work set is a normal set. Do that set.
- Take 3 minutes after your first work set using your manual timer
- Repeat your first work set for as many sets as you'd like (2-5 sets work best)

In other words, ignore the rest-pause sets, and enter the normal sets you do instead. I realise this workaround is not perfect, but it still lets you do normal sets using the app as it is right now.

Best regards,

Carl

How long would you say it will be before this is implemented if you don't know exactly the can you give an estimate?

Planned

Hi Peter,

I'd rather not give an estimate, as software development is fluid and hard to predict. I'll update here and mark this suggestion as "started" when we start working on it.

Best,

Carl

Yes, please let us choose for every exercise if we want to do regular sets or rest pause (deadlifts rest pause style aren't that great if you pull more than 240kg). Thank you.

I like the rest-pause option but would also like the option to switch between rest-pause and normal sets so that every exercise in my entire program is not set to rest-pause or just a normal set of four or five therefore the option to chose would be best instead of eliminating rest-pause entirely.

We had a small bug with the timer's "automatch reps" feature (only for normal sets). Because of the bug, it wouldn't time 2 to 3 minutes even when the app recommended that. Today's release fixes that bug.

Thanks for your patience and support as we build this app. I really appreciate the support from forward-thinking lifters like yourself.
