Settings interface: change toggle switch for single drop down

Andrew Coven 7 years ago 0

The settings interface isn’t compliant with simple user interface guidelines. The toggle switch is for optional selections, it’s not the correct button to use for mutually exclusive selections. Use radio buttons or a drop down for that. An example of this is the background. That should just be a single drop down with the one selection.

Click Manage Workouts — Dr Muscle —

You’ll see or not see the Bodyweight button on the iPhone SE.

Top half is there but it doesn’t show. It does work if you click. Takes you to manage body weight workouts.

How to Re-Do an Exercise While in a Session

Marc David 7 years ago updated by Carl Juneau, PhD 7 years ago 1

Finish a set say Bench Press.

I want to do it over.   Maybe I didn't get the machine I wanted.  Whatever.  If I go back to Bench Press, it sets me up in that session for the next workout.  But I want to edit the entire exercise, delete what I did and start over without it moving to the next session.

How do I erase after finishing that exercise and start over?

Answer
Carl Juneau, PhD 7 years ago

Hi Marc,

To do that, head over to your logs, and delete your entry for that exercise on that day. Here's how:

Top-right menu >

My progression >

Logs (top nav) >

Scroll to your exercise (or specific sets) >

Tap "..." >

Tap "Delete"

Next, return to your workout, and do that exercise again.

I'm marking this idea as completed. Please email support (support@drmuscleapp.com) if you have more questions about that (lots of customers get an email notification when you post something here; please only suggest new features here).

All the best,

Carl

No need RPE message when number of reps is not reached

Yohann 7 years ago updated by Carl Juneau, PhD 7 years ago 3

When we don't reach the number of reps asked for the first set, the app shouldn't ask us if it was hard or if we could have made more reps, it seems obvious it was too hard :)

Answer
Carl Juneau, PhD 7 years ago

Hi Yohann,

I can understand your point, but as Glen said, sometimes people will do fewer reps than recommended for other reasons than all-out failure. In those cases, I still want them to be able to tell the app how many reps they had in reserve.

You said you don't really understand it, so if you'd like to read more about this concept, you can check out:

http://drmuscleapp.com/news/reps-in-reserve/ ("If your sets are easy and you have many reps in reserve, Dr. Muscle will push you harder. If your sets are hard and you have zero reps in reserve, Dr. Muscle won’t increase your weight at all.")

https://www.strongerbyscience.com/weekly-load-progression/ (see section 3, "Rating of Perceived Exertion (RPE)")

I'm going to mark your suggestion as declined for now, but I'm open to changing that in the future if need be.

Thank you,

Carl

Hi Mathew,

Thank you for your suggestion. It's already been suggested. Please vote for the original suggestion here: https://muscle.userecho.com/communities/1/topics/12-images-or-videos-for-exercises. It already has quite a few votes ;)

I'm closing off this suggestion to prevent duplicates.

Cheers,

Make a lower body work out more glute focused (for women)

Florence Lightfoot 7 years ago updated by tomislav stanimirovic 7 years ago 2

I have swapped out some of the leg exercises to make the lower body work out more glute focused, I think it would be useful if there was a work out like this on the app.

Rest timer starts when "All Sets Done" message displays

Glen Acord 7 years ago updated by Carl Juneau, PhD 7 years ago 3

Today I used version 2.5.20 for my workout. When I saved what I thought was the last set of the exercise (and the "All Sets Done" message displayed), the rest timer started again. This was confusing because it sent the mixed-message that I was supposed to do another set.

So I don't believe the rest timer should start running after saving the last set of an exercise.

Provide cancel button for "reps-in-reserve" popup, or a way to view and edit later.

Glen Acord 7 years ago updated by Carl Juneau, PhD 7 years ago 1

In today's workout I encountered the new "reps-in-reserve" feature when saving the main work set. I'm sure this will be a fantastic input to the algorithms. So for the backlog it would be great to have a way to view and edit this number. Or at lease provide a "cancel" button for the popup.

The reason is that I accidentally clicked "save" for my work set before I actually did the exercise, which popped up the "reps-in-reserve" feature. Of course I had no idea how many reps-in-reserve I was going to have. I fumbled around trying to cancel out of it so I could re-save, but I didn't get the popup back and may have saved a very wrong value which will throw off the upcoming workout or two.

Answer
Carl Juneau, PhD 7 years ago

Hi Glen,

Thanks for taking the time to write. That one seems easy to fix: simply delete your work set and do it again. You'll get the popup again, and you'll be able to enter the correct value. That value will be recorded (not the previous, uncorrect one, since you've deleted that set). To delete your work set, tap "..." to its right and tap "delete".

Best regards,

Carl

Rest-timer starts with “50” then in the next second it goes to “24”

McClure Jones 7 years ago updated by Carl Juneau, PhD 7 years ago 1

The rest-timer often starts with “50” then in the next second it goes to “24” and counts down the 25 seconds. - Don’t start with “50”. Start with “25”.
