An option for 50%-75% workout intensity.

Jonathon V 8 months ago updated by Carl Juneau, PhD 8 months ago 1

Option for reduced intensity at those intervals if recovery feels slow or minor tweak occurred during rest day. This would not affect future workout calculations or adaptations and just be treated as a one off lower intensity workout.

Hi Jon,

Good news: the feature you requested is already available in the app. You can achieve a 50%-75% workout intensity by tapping "..." next to any exercise, and selecting "Swap". Then, choose the same exercise with a medium or easy variation. To return to your original workout, tap "Undo swap" or go to Edit workout (top left) and select Restore workout (top right).

This functionality allows for lower intensity sessions based on your recovery needs without impacting future workout calculations or adaptations. You can use for all or just some of your exercises, and choose easy or medium on a case by case basis depending on your needs.

I will mark this request as completed for now. If you need more help, please email us at support@drmuscleapp.com.

Thank you for your feedback!

Add more machine exercises

Include in the list of exercises the resistance machines that Planet Fitness has. Note that Planet Fitness has somewhere around 33% market share in the U.S., with around 2000 gyms.

Determine if I should change my training frequency

Pierre J 8 months ago 0

It is a shame that the app cannot determine over time whether I should increase or decrease my training frequency.

Currently the app recommends 3 sessions per week, respecting 1 day on 1 day off. But sometimes she also advises me to add a 4th session (without changing my frequency)... which makes it a mismatch with the recommended rest days.

Custom weight increments for different types of exercises

alexjamos1 8 months ago updated by Carl Juneau, PhD 8 months ago 1

Might be a more UK specific piece but free weights are usually in kg while cable machines increment in lbs. So would be good if you could either use two different units for defined weight sets. Another one would be to assign a weight set override for certain workouts, so use the plate weight set for this even though it might default to pulley etc

Hi Alex,

Good news! You can already set up custom increments at the exercise level.

Just tap "..." next to any exercise in your workout, and then tap "Exercise settings". Toggle on Use custom increments, and you'll be good to go!

You could also entered detailed dumbbells and plate equipment, and use the more general increment setting for other machines and pulley (if they match). That would be under Settings > Change equipment.

I'm going to mark this as completed for now. Need more help? Email us anytime at support@drmuscleapp.com. We're here for you.

All the best,

More stats!

Ismar I 8 months ago 0

It would be fun to be able to see:

  • in a calendar view, on which days did I complete workouts?
  • How long did each workout take? (Time from tapping start workout to tapping finish workout)
  • An average of the last point with trends.. are my workouts taking longer now than when I started?
  • Rest stats: do I follow the rest timer in Dr. Muscle exactly? Do I rest longer between exercises? Shorter?
  • Length each exercise took + trends

There are tons of possibilities here and the list above is not exhaustive.

Ability to set min work sets to one (1) on some exercises.

John Chester 8 months ago 0

Currently when completing Cardio exercises like Elliptical I want to initiate a 35-40 min work set, however each time I start my exercise I end up with two sets and have to delete one before I begin.  I would like the ability to set the work set to 1 so that I do not need to amend the exercise each time I start, currently up to 4 times a week.

I'd like to suggest adding Forearms as an option to the Priority Body Part menu.

Ability to specify custom exercise types or categories

Please, allow to specify custom subcategories (e.g. gym/home/physiotherapy). Currently, adding “my exercises” only creates a potentially huge, uncategorized exercise list.

Drag and drop exercise order

Rinaldo B 9 months ago 0

In order to change the exercise order I currently have to edit workout go through two pages, drag & drop and then confirm/save. Let’s do this drag & drop from the main exercise page, on the fly, without having to edit the whole workout (only exercise order).

I am aware I can jump to another exercise (e.g. if a machine is already in use) but this feature is different from #1, plus #1 would allow to track the exercise order for that specific session/workout.

AI comments after workout

Dominique O 9 months ago updated 9 months ago 2

On occasion, the app suggests a lighter load for an exercise than in the previous workout. It says “Deload”. I have several questions here:

1. I’ve only been doing the workout in question for 2 weeks. Is it normal that there is already a deload?

2. If I follow the recommendation and perform the sets with the lower reps and/or weight, the app then says that my strength went down upon completion of the exercise. I may be misunderstanding what’s happening, but that sounds quite contrary. This happened a few days ago, and upon completion of the entire workout, the AI summary said that the exercise in question was my worst lift :-(.

3. Today, the same thing happened, and the AI summary said that my volume progress has not changed in the past few days. I could have lifted more. I’m not understanding why the “deload” comes into the picture.

Could someone please clarify what’s happening? Thank you.

Hi Dominique,

I'm sorry to hear about your experience with the app suggesting a deload at what seems the wrong time. It can certainly be frustrating to see strength or volume go down. But it's important to understand that progress is not always linear, and that deloading may be the best course of action at times.

You can learn more at deloads at https://dr-muscle.com/deload. The app will recommend them when your performance has gone down or when it's stuck to prevent overtraining and injury.

Following the recommendation to deload by reducing reps and/or weight temporarily may help your body recover and come back stronger in the long run, even if it may seem counterintuitive initially.

If the app suggests a deload but you feel like you could have lifted more, you can always cancel it. Just tap the alert icon on your first work set (that says deload) and tap Cancel deload. Further, you can also always make any exercise harder by tapping the three dots next to it and Challenge.

If you have more questions about the app or potential bugs to report, please get in touch at support@drmuscleapp.com. We try to keep this site for features requests only.

Thank you for choosing Dr. Muscle!
