Warm-up as as part of the main workout

Ellis C 9 months ago 0

Having my warmup be a part of the main workout would be beneficial to me in a small, busy gym as sometimes I'll have to do things in a strange order.

Rowing machine

Ovi 10 months ago updated by Carl Juneau, PhD 10 months ago 1

Setting up the exercise on the rowing machine. We have two criteria in the application: time and speed. The time is shown either by the machine or separately, but not all rowing machines tell you the speed. Some have speed steps, others have an electronic display and show you the power in watts. Could we have other criteria for measuring effort besides "speed"? And in the current case what does the speed refer to, in kilometers/miles per hour or is it a preset gear of the device?

Hi Ovi,

Thank you for your suggestion.

We understand that different machines have varying displays and metrics, which can sometimes create confusion.

Yes, we could incorporate additional criteria for measuring effort beyond just speed and time. For instance, distance can also be a valuable metric to track during rowing sessions. It's been voted on already at: Adding Detailed Cardio.

To clarify your question about speed: it can refer to different units depending on your machine. If your rowing machine displays speed in kilometers per hour (km/h), you can use that measurement directly. If it uses a preset gear system, you can input the corresponding speed value as best suited to your workout.

Thanks again for your feedback. I look forward to seeing this get more votes.

Make skipping or missing workouts more intuitive

Abe B 10 months ago 0

I would recommend adding something to app that makes this process more transparent and intuitive...maybe a pop-up message the first time you open the app after missing a workout, or not completing a workout. The message could be something like "hey, we noticed that you missed your full body workout on (enter date) and this is your first time back since then. Do you want to do that workout now? " Then if you respond yes there could be a follow-on message like "We noticed that normally you have 48hrs rest between workouts and if you exercise today, you won't have the recommended recovery time. Do you want us to shift (enter whatever workouts are affected) for you do the following dates (enter dates).

Of note, after having done my work out a day later than planned, the app didn't shift things for me. I opened it yesterday (Saturday) planning to do my Friday workout and the app didn't recommend anything. It was telling me to wait until Monday to training despite not having worked out since Thursday. Again, my primary issue with the app is that it isn't an intuitive experience if you miss or don't complete a workout. It might be something useful but it isn't clear to me...maybe it's just me.

Regards,

A

Weighted twisting crunch

The weighted twisting crunch video is different than the animation in the exercise. In my opinion it should be the same to be clear how to do it.

Adding warmup sets

Seppo V 11 months ago updated by Carl Juneau, PhD 11 months ago 1

In my last workout, there was only one warmup set for each exercise. Even the first exercise - deadlift - had only one warmup set. This is probably because it was a light workout, but still I feel that one warmup set on the first exercise of the workout is too little, especially when the exercise is a heavy compound exercise. And even if the workout itself might be marked light, the weight might still be heavy.

Naturally, one can do more, but it still would be good it one could add more warmups on the app at the very least, even if the AI would not offer more warmup sets. Especially the last warmup set might be heavier than the backoff set so taking extra warmups will affect the total load of the workout.  Currently, one can only add work sets but not warmup sets.

Hey Seppe,

To add warm-up sets, just tap "..." next to any exercise and Exercise settings. Then toggle on Use custom warm-ups, and you'll be good to go!

You can also choose to have more warm-up sets for all your exercises in your global settings (bottom bar).

As a reminder, dozens of people get an email every time you make a suggestion here. So if you have any questions about the app, please drop us a note at support@drmuscleapp.com instead.

I'm going to mark this as completed for now.

Thank you,

Carl

Give a goal in reps for new 1 RM

Seppo V 11 months ago updated 11 months ago 2

In another workout app I have used,  the app tells the user, how many reps (s)he has to complete in order to make a new 1RM in the exercise. That made the trainee to make that extra push in order to make a new record. It might not be obvious, how many reps to target if the weight varies; e.g. if the previous 1 rep record was 7 reps with 85 kilos, how many reps I'll have to manage with 60 kilos?

Currrently, the Dr Muscle app just tells what was my result the last time, but if the weight is dirrerent, that does not necessarily tell much.

Hi Seppo,

Thanks for submitting that suggestion.

On your first work set of any exercise, you should see by how much your 1RM will go up or down depending on your chosen reps and weights. If you change those manually, you'll notice the 1RM change as well.

Let us know if you had something else in mind!

Best,

Carl

User defined weight / progression

Seppo V 11 months ago updated 11 months ago 2

I just started my second macrocycle; e.g. today I did the Lower body 7A medium workout second time. On the first workout the AI gave me 80 kilos on the deadlift as a working weight. I increased the weight to 120 kg for reps. Today when I got to do the Deadlift (medium) again, the AI had increased the weight to 85 kg - increased the weight from the originaali 80 kilos,  but it was a significant reduction in weight from the weight I actually used.

i used the weight suggested by the AI and did few extra reps to what the AI suggested, but my result was almost 20 percent down to the previous medium deadlift.

It seems that the AI won't adapt to the user made changes in weight.

Rearranging the exercises / drag & drop

Seppo V 11 months ago updated 11 months ago 2

It would be helpful if one could rearrange the exercises in the midst of an ongoing workout with drag & drop. The AI could even take the new order of exercises into account when determining my progress in the workout.

For example: if the program says squat, then hack squat, and then leg press, but I'll have to move the squat after leg press, this would probably affect my squatting, compared to squatting with fresh muscles.

Hello Seppo,

Thanks for your suggestion. Did you know you can already reorder exercises during your workouts? Here's how:

Open any workout

Tap the pen icon (top-right)

Tap Continue

Reorder your exercises as you please

I'm going to keep this open in case it gets more votes for a smoother integration during workouts, and your other comments as well.

Thank you so much for choosing Dr. Muscle,

Responds to Apple Watch data

karina_rob 11 months ago 0

For my age and stage of life, I think I am after an app that responds to the data collected through my Apple Watch, so, if I have a poor recovery, I don’t have to think about it, the app just adjusts the workout accordingly.

AI chat screen

Seppo V 11 months ago updated by Carl Juneau, PhD 11 months ago 1

When I open the app and perhaps start to examine my upcoming workout etc, after few seconds the AI chat screen is forced open, and I have to go back to my home screen to continue whatever I was doing. This is somewhat annoying, especially if I have already seen the AI chat several times; the first time after the previous workout, and after that every time I open the app.

This is not a big deal, but again it is annoying. If I want to see the AI feedback, I can open the chat screen myself when I want to, but if I am forced to interrupt what I was doing to see the same feedback yet again, it starts to get under my skin at some point.
