Log and edit perceived effort

Dan Kelly 5 years ago updated by Carl Juneau, PhD 5 years ago 1

User can see their history in the Workouts, including weight, reps and sets. The perceived effort is not shown, and is not editable. Perceived effort can't be changed if the user selects the wrong effort by mistake, or if an exercise is repeated later in a workout (say the first attempt failed due to fatigue or inappropriate exercise order).

Thank you for your suggestion Dan. You can change your perceived effort, but I agree it could be easier. Here's how:

When you work out, the app will ask you how hard your set was after your first work set

Delete any work sets you've done after the first to get the rating question again

Enter your new (correct) rating

Save your extra work sets again

Finish your exercise

If you've already finished and saved the exercise, delete it from your logs (history page) and enter it again with the correct information. I realise that's all a bit cumbersome so I look forward to simplifying the process when this suggestion becomes top voted.

Best,

Carl

Schedule for Workout and Bodyweight Exercises

Sunit 5 years ago updated by Carl Juneau, PhD 5 years ago 1

Hi. I am new to this app. I am 33 years old. On joining the automated chat suggested me to do workouts thrice a week considering my age and the longer recovery time my body needs. I've tried many apps and no app ever game me such personalized tips. However the app does not show a calendar/schedule or the days when I must workout. The AI chat suggests the very next day that my body must have recovered and I can begin with my next workout. Is it then left to user discretion to understand how one feels and pick the workout days? I feel since the app is backed by science the app could suggest apt days for workout in a calendar format.

I also noticed that the selection of bodyweight exercises is limited. Example there is no inverted rows which is one of my favorite exercises for back conditioning. I travel a lot and for that I prefer doing bodyweight workouts. Do you plan to add more bodyweight exercises to the app?

Cheers

Suneet

 Suneet, welcome to Dr. Muscle!

Thanks for that suggestion. I look forward to implementing it (we implement suggestions with the most votes first).

Re inverted rows and bw exercises, yes, we plan on adding more. In the meantime, you can easily add inverted rows to your account via the exercises menu, like this:

Exercises (bottom bar)
Custom
Add my own (or big white + button, if you just got the new update)

The app will apply it's AI logic to your inverted rows and any custom exercise you create. You can add them to your workouts using the swap feature (http://drmuscleapp.com/news/swap), big white + button during any workout (with the latest update) or create a custom workout with them. As you can see, Dr. Muscle is very flexible.

If you have more questions about the app, hit me up inside app chat or email us at support@drmuscleapp.com (we try to keep this site for feature requests).

Best regards,

Carl

Resume Workout

Marc David 5 years ago updated 5 years ago 4

There are several times when I've been in the middle of a workout and either the app crashes (rare) or somehow I've navigated away from the current screen elsewhere and am unable to get back into that workout.

I'd like a resume workout feature.  It knows that I started a workout and haven't yet saved.  If I click Resume, it will get me back to the most recent exercise and saved set.

Exercises you have already finished (saved) show a green checkmark next to them. That way, you know. Checkmarks don't disappear until you "Finish and save" and workout (bottom button).

Default bar weight

Now we have the plate calculator it would be nice to be able to set a default value for the bar weight, it would save time rather than using the slider each time. I mainly use a 10kg bar at home.

"Back Button" function during an exercise set

Bob Peake 5 years ago updated by Marc David 5 years ago 7

When doing a exercise, lets say you are doing your 3rd set of an exercise, and you accidently save the wrong information (ie, weight said 57.5 pounds and you did 60)… the "back button" should just take you back to the last page so you can update that information, then move on with set 4.  Currently, it takes you to the beginning of that exercise and all the sets you have done, and it is a bit difficult to navigate back to set 3, update, and move on to set 4.

I realize "back" is different in different situations, if you have saved the exercise then "back" would take you to the exercise level, but if you are doing sets, it would be better if it just went "back one page" to be able to correct a bad entry and continue.

Hi Bob,

To correct a bad entry, you can tap "..." next to that saved set, and tap "edit". Does that work for you?

Decimal values of weight used in History > Logs view doesn't match entered weight

Glen Acord 5 years ago updated by Carl Juneau, PhD 4 years ago 1

There's a numeric conversion happening which causes the weight on the History page (Logs view) to have slight differences in the decimal places from the weight entered on the exercise page.

E.g. entering 50.0 lbs on the Bench Press exercise page can appear as 49.98 lbs on the History > Logs page. Preferably the weight would show as 50.0 lbs everywhere.

Add per set notes during the exercise that show in the log

Barrett Roberts 5 years ago 0

Would be very nice to be able to record notes on each set of the exercises and have them reflected in the workout history as well as a main comment on the exercise itself.   I’ve used this a lot in my paper journals to make specific comments to myself on how a set felt during the workout.

Body weight rep ranges

Jake Reed 5 years ago updated by Tony Degennaro 5 years ago 3

On most of the body weight movements the second warm-up set is very close to the working set (using rest pause). So close in fact that if I were to do it, I wouldn't be able to finish the working set. I've resorted to doing the working set reps in the second warm-up set, followed by the second warm-up reps in my working set and just saying how many more I could have done based on my feel from the working set. I could adjust the reps accordingly but it seems like that would negatively influence my progress.

Hi Jake,

Great point. I agree warm-ups for bw exercises need a little work.

How about we lower reps?

Total reps after giant set in rest pause setting

Jake Reed 5 years ago updated 5 years ago 2

The rest pause feature is fantastic for saving time. However, sometimes I will have 6 sets after the giant set, significantly increasing my workout time. I've just been adding up the total reps and performing sets until I'm ~1-2 from failure. It would be nice if it just told me how many more reps to do and added sets until I hit the recommended total reps.
