Adjust workouts based on sleep the previous night, motivation, etc.

John T 1 year ago 0

I think further integration with other data I have on my phone from other health apps would be great: heart rate variability, sleep the previous night, etc. would be useful. So, when I go to workout, perhaps the app says, you got only 6 hours of sleep, then asks me how much motivation I have to work out, and then, based on my responses, suggests a tailored workout, etc.

Syncing Meal Plan to App

Nygel 2 years ago 0

Hi, it would be great if the meal plan synced into the app so the recipes, meals, and ingredients were there and it automatically updated each week and each day you can mark what you've eaten and the macro count updated. Would also be great if you could directly replace ingredients and it updated macros (i.e. meal calls for 6oz chicken breast but you substitute for 6oz salmon and the protein, calories, fat content would update).

Plate calculator for isolatetal machines

Bruce Wayne 2 years ago updated by Legna 3 months ago 2

I think we should have plate calculators for isolateral machines because the one for a bar doesn't work because it bilateral and every machine has different starting resistance. It will be helpful and save time.

Cardio workouts to show in minutes/seconds

Joseph P 3 years ago updated by Carl Juneau, PhD 10 months ago 4

When logging cardio exercises it asks for seconds only making it difficult to constantly do the math. Could this be changed to be two parts? Enter minutes and seconds and the ability to add by text or use a scroll function.

Thanks for voting for this feature—it's in beta! From the announcement:

Better cardio exercises are coming! Cardio is one of our top requested features, so I’m pumped to bring it to you. With this update coming up in beta, you can enter, track, and adjust your speed for cardio exercises. Other recent updates to cardio include timers in mm:ss, support for a single "set" of cardio, and more. Want more improvements to cardio exercises? Let us know!

If you're in the beta:
On Android, you can already download the update. On iPhone? You'll have to wait 7-10 days for Apple to release it. To update:

Incorporating popular strength, hyperthropy workouts

Seppe Hoobergs 3 years ago 0

It would be fun to be able to select some of the most known and popular workouts programs in bodybuilding and strength community, programs such as:

Strength: Starting strength, stronglifts 5x5, jim wendlers 5,3,1, the texas method,...

Hyperthrophy:
German volume training, layne norton phat, jeff nippard 5day full body, fst-7

are all pretty good and fun to do, the app could defenitly improve some of those workout programs with it's own algorithm but also some are not to be messed with, kinda denpends on the program.

Ability to create an easy exercise from an existing one in Dr Muscle exercises database

André Ferreira 3 years ago updated by Seppe Hoobergs 3 years ago 1

create a easy exercise copy of an existing one to add to your custom workout routine.

I can create one but the app doesn’t link it to the existing (normal) version só It! Can relate the weights as the app is already doing with with the already existing easy exercise versions.

1 Rep Max and Percentages Per Exercise

Marc David 4 years ago updated by Carl Juneau, PhD 4 years ago 1

I've been doing some blood flow restriction training... most studies are done with 20% of a 1 RM for a given exercise.  However, it would be great to see my barbell curls and have DR Muscle estimate my 1 RM... and then show me the percentage breakdown.

There's plenty of web calculators that do this already I know but moving from exercise to exercise, I am not sure what my 1 RM for should press would be without going outside of the app and then guessing.  But Dr Muscle probably already knows my best and highest weight I've used for dumbbell shoulder presses since I started using it and would have a better idea of my true 1 RM and what 20% of that 1 RM realistically be.

Answer
Carl Juneau, PhD 4 years ago

Marc, thank you for that suggestion. Until it gets more votes, you can always check your 1RM (just not percentages) for any exercise under More > Charts. Use the drop-down menu to select the exercise and timeframe you want, and you'll your 1RMs for that timeframe.

Switching to 15-20 Reps Should Adjust Accordingly

Marc David 4 years ago updated by Carl Juneau, PhD 4 years ago 1

Heavy lifting takes it toll.. so I opted to switch things up.  Maybe some high rep training for variation.  DR Muscle let me switch the program to 12-20 reps and reloaded.

But the weights it picks is insane.

For example, if my normal weight was 100 for 17 on tricep pushdowns, switching set it to 90 for 17?

Or flat dumbbell presses went from 85 at 8... to 70 at 18.

I believe it does this to keep in line with your current strength curve.  I'm not sure what to do here.  I don't want to deload endlessly but I also wish I could say.. hey DR Muscle.. you know my 1 RM for bench press.. okay so instead of working out in the prescribed 75-90% range, let's take it down to 55%...

Maybe that would be a better option?

I want my reps to be 15-20 and within the 55% range ... so it's not a deload but it gives me more volume at less weight.

A percentage option would be great!

Hi Marc,

I can definitely see where you're coming from here. Until your suggestion gets more votes and we implement it, I can suggest two ways to do this:

1) Tap More > Deload next to the exercises you find too heavy. One deload should get you about to where you want to be. Then, you can tell the app the set was "very, very hard" anytime you don't want it to increase your weights.

2) Create a custom program with easy (or medium) variations of your exercises (or swap those in). Easy exercises have a target RIR of 5-6 and medium of 3-4. You could also try the default Dr. Muscle programs (they have plenty of those starting at level 4).

Hope this helps!

Work out from the Web (on desktop/laptop)

Jessie Hanna 4 years ago updated by Carl Juneau, PhD 4 years ago 1

I have a tech request - it would be very helpful to access all the intra workout app functionality (timer, weights, repts, etc) via a website and not only through mobile apps.

[...]

Working out via the web from my laptop at home is exactly what I meant. Using a laptop at home is much easier than using the mobile app at home.

Thank you,

Jessie Hanna

Answer

Thank you for that suggestion Jessie. I look forward to implementing it as it gets more votes. In the meantime, we have a workaround using an Android emulator on your computer.

We have 3 customers using it this way. Here's how:

1. Download and install bluestacks.com

2. Open it and search for "Dr. Muscle" (video demo)

3. That's it!

Log into your Dr. Muscle account using the same email address and password you use on your phone. It's the same app, just on PC.
