Add notes to an exercise / workout when it's done

Marc David 8 years ago updated by Carl Juneau, PhD 6 years ago 7

Might even be nice to add notes to a workout when it's done so you can see how you feel as your progressing over time

Thanks for voting for this feature -- it's done!

You can now add a note to any exercise. Tap "..." next to an exercise to add your note.

If you're on Android, you can update right away. If you're on Apple, you'll need to wait 2-3 more days (it's under final review). To update:

- Open the store app on your phone

- Search "Dr. Muscle"

- Tap "Update"

Now would be a great time to suggest and vote for our next feature. If you'd like to do that, please visit: https://muscle.userecho.com/communities/1-submit-your-feedback/topics#.

Really appreciate your support and advice. Thanks!

Apple health integration with scales that measure body fat

Aaron E 11 months ago updated by Dominique O 2 months ago 1

When will the app be more fully integrated with Apple Health? Seems like a no-brainer to allow integration with scales that measure body fat so the AI part of the app can better adjust (whether that be meal plans or details of the workout itself).

Increasing the equipment to include 2 barbells. For example a 15 pound and a 45 pound bar.

Krystyl Kulbeck 1 year ago updated by Austin Seltzer 2 months ago 5

Being a female, on upper days, I seem to use my 15 pound bar more. On leg days, I uses my 45 pound bar more. It would be great to have both bars in the equipment section.

Adjust workouts based on sleep the previous night, motivation, etc.

John T 2 years ago updated by Cole D 4 months ago 1

I think further integration with other data I have on my phone from other health apps would be great: heart rate variability, sleep the previous night, etc. would be useful. So, when I go to workout, perhaps the app says, you got only 6 hours of sleep, then asks me how much motivation I have to work out, and then, based on my responses, suggests a tailored workout, etc.

Explanation of programming recommendations

Darren Cole 2 years ago updated by Carl Juneau, PhD 2 years ago 3

It would be really helpful to have more detailed descriptions of why certain recommendations are being made.  I can’t tell, for example, why the app sometimes recommends a very low number of reps (3 instead of normal range of 8-15), or gets me to do a Max session, or started a deload for a given exercise.

I know a lot of the time it’s just adding a rep or a weight increment for progressive overload but when ever it’s not doing that it (e.g. because you under performed last time on the exercise, at the end of the cycle, whatever the reason) would be helpful to know why.

Hi Darren,

Thanks for your feedback! Truly appreciate your suggestion for more detailed descriptions of the recommendations.

Currently, we have a feature that provides additional information about the logic behind your sets and reps for each exercise. During your first work set, you can look for the exclamation mark at the end of the yellow coach tip line. Tapping on the mark will give you more information about why specific recommendations are being made.

If you would like to see more information implemented in the app, please let us know where and how you would like it to be displayed. Really appreciate your input to improve the user experience.

Best,

Carl

Realistic workout time estimate

Kevin Allard 2 years ago updated by Carl Juneau, PhD 2 years ago 3

For the full body workout the app always gives an estimate of 30 minutes, but it always takes me about two and a half hours if I follow the app's suggested rest times. And I always skip bench at the moment, so it would be even longer if I did that as well. If it's impossible to do the full body workout in 60 minutes following the default rest sessions it doesn't make sense to have 60 minutes as the standard estimate for it. Could you change the settings so that it gives a realistic time estimate for the workouts?

Thanks for voting for this feature! It's done.

We're revised the way the app estimates your workout duration. We've also added a "Workout duration" setting that influences how any warm-up sets and work sets you'll be doing. You can find it under the Settings tab (bottom bar).

Now would be a good time to suggest and vote for our next feature. Please visit https://muscle.userecho.com/.

We've released 53 updates in 2023 (one a week or so). For the full list, see https://dr-muscle.com/timeline/.

Add equipment settings for machines

David Crandall 2 years ago updated by Patrick B 7 months ago 1

The gym I most often use has about 10 different strength machines and about as many cardio machines. There are no plates, no dumbbells, no benches, no chin-up bar, one very limited "pulley" (a lat pulldown machine with one overhead pulley and no other attachments), and no room for bodyweight exercises or calisthenics. Ideally, I should be able to select the specific types of equipment that are available (e.g. chest press, leg press, etc.) for the app to select exercises for. Right now the app only allows the user to select from 4 very broad categories rather than specific types of equipment, and none of the categories in the app currently even apply to my available equipment.

Once I have manually configured the exercises, the app does seem to do well in weight and rep assignments with appropriate progressions (now that I understand the rest-pause effect). This is half the battle, but I don't feel like I'm getting full use from the app because of the equipment and exercise selection issues.

AI ability to swap excercises / suggest an alternative when swapping

Stu A 2 years ago updated by Carl Juneau, PhD 4 months ago 4

I do have a suggestion to improve the product though: where there is a substitute needed, the app should suggest an alternative (the closest exercise to providing the same training impact as the original) instead of letting the customer select one.

Hope this helps.

Display notes on exercise screen

Jim B 3 years ago updated by Oskar W 2 months ago 2

When a note has been added to an exercise it would be great to have the first line or so of that note displayed on the exercise set screen, there is space. Right under the name of exercise show the first several words of the note. Otherwise you have to open settings for each exercise to see if you have a note. And if possible make it so you can tap those words it opens your full note.
