Make personal statistics data available via API

Ross 6 years ago updated by Carl Juneau, PhD 6 years ago 1

I'd love to be able to extract my training data via an API, for use in a presentation layer, that I could use to see more in-depth, custom graphs over time.  I know there's the web-app at the moment but my thinking is that, by providing this data via API, the community could develop some open-source dashboards (yes, I'm volunteering) that would mean the core dev team could focus on the app.

Control the amount of sets per exercise

Ray Snyder 6 years ago updated by Carl Juneau, PhD 5 years ago 1

I can control the exercises and I can control the reps, but I am unable to control the amount of sets per exercise. I would like a setting for that I think it's missing.

Thanks for voting for this feature -- it's done! You can now customize sets in Settings and for every exercise by tapping the pen icon. In the next release, you'll also be able to customize them at the workout level.

If you're on Android, you can update now (v1234). If you're on iPhone, you'll have to wait 2-3 days for Apple to approve it. To update:

- Open the store app on your phone
- Search for Dr. Muscle
- Tap update

Now would be a great time to suggest and vote for our next feature. If you'd like to do that, please visit: https://muscle.userecho.com/communities/1-submit-your-feedback/topics#.

Really appreciate your support and advice. Thanks!

When I swap only show exercises that are a good replacement for that specific exercise

When I swap might be convenient if the app only showed me exercises that are a good replacement for that specific exercise

Thanks for voting for this feature -- it's done! You'll find suggested exercises for the same body part the next time you swap an exercise during a workout (see image for a chest exercise).

Weak point training

Stacy Lidell 7 years ago 0

Hi there Carl,

I was wondering if in the future there would be a way for the app to engineer weak point training. As a competitive bodybuiler, albeit a physique athlete, one is always trying to work on balance and symmetry. I just thought that this could be an awesome inclusion into the app (if possible of course) if it could come from a scientific background.

I am not sure how you would "teach" the app how to gauge the user's weak points but maybe this could be done via user-based feedback. So for example if I were able to tell the app which parts of my body I feel are lagging behind then it could readjust my programming to try and overcome those weak points.

Obviously I could program that in myself, but it would be amazing if this could be done in a scientific way by the app (utilising excercises shown to affect growth in said weak areas).

Kind Regards,

Stacy

Add notes to an exercise / workout when it's done

Marc David 8 years ago updated by Carl Juneau, PhD 7 years ago 7

Might even be nice to add notes to a workout when it's done so you can see how you feel as your progressing over time

Apple health integration with scales that measure body fat

Aaron E 1 year ago updated by Dominique O 3 months ago 1

When will the app be more fully integrated with Apple Health? Seems like a no-brainer to allow integration with scales that measure body fat so the AI part of the app can better adjust (whether that be meal plans or details of the workout itself).

Increasing the equipment to include 2 barbells. For example a 15 pound and a 45 pound bar.

Krystyl Kulbeck 2 years ago updated by Austin Seltzer 3 months ago 5

Being a female, on upper days, I seem to use my 15 pound bar more. On leg days, I uses my 45 pound bar more. It would be great to have both bars in the equipment section.

Adjust workouts based on sleep the previous night, motivation, etc.

John T 2 years ago updated by Cole D 6 months ago 1

I think further integration with other data I have on my phone from other health apps would be great: heart rate variability, sleep the previous night, etc. would be useful. So, when I go to workout, perhaps the app says, you got only 6 hours of sleep, then asks me how much motivation I have to work out, and then, based on my responses, suggests a tailored workout, etc.

Explanation of programming recommendations

Darren Cole 2 years ago updated by Carl Juneau, PhD 2 years ago 3

It would be really helpful to have more detailed descriptions of why certain recommendations are being made.  I can’t tell, for example, why the app sometimes recommends a very low number of reps (3 instead of normal range of 8-15), or gets me to do a Max session, or started a deload for a given exercise.

I know a lot of the time it’s just adding a rep or a weight increment for progressive overload but when ever it’s not doing that it (e.g. because you under performed last time on the exercise, at the end of the cycle, whatever the reason) would be helpful to know why.

Answer
Carl Juneau, PhD 2 years ago

Hi Darren,

Thanks for your feedback! Truly appreciate your suggestion for more detailed descriptions of the recommendations.

Currently, we have a feature that provides additional information about the logic behind your sets and reps for each exercise. During your first work set, you can look for the exclamation mark at the end of the yellow coach tip line. Tapping on the mark will give you more information about why specific recommendations are being made.

If you would like to see more information implemented in the app, please let us know where and how you would like it to be displayed. Really appreciate your input to improve the user experience.

Best,

Carl
