Customizable bar weight

Benjamin Clifford 6 years ago updated by Carl Juneau, PhD 6 months ago 1

My gym uses a 8.5kg ez-bar for some strange reason. Unfortunately, having set increments on the slider doesn't let me enter this unusual bar weight.

Thanks for voting for this suggestion: it's live!

You can now adjust your bar weight by 0.5 kg or 1 lb increments in the plate calculator, allowing you to work with bars of any weight.

Pumped? Now would be a good time to vote for our next features at https://muscle.userecho.com/.

Thanks again for your support,

Progress Logs

Mac Jones 6 years ago updated by Carl Juneau, PhD 6 years ago 8

I think the progress reports and logs could use a bit of improvement. The graph shows the 1RM change over the past three workouts. That's fine. But below that is a long list of exercises performed recently. I don't think this is very helpful. Bodyspace and to a lesser extent JeFit both had reports that showed graphs and reports that provided long-term data. One measurement that I liked (but really wasn't useful) was "total weight lifted to date". When I hit 1,000,000 lbs, I felt like I'd hit a major milestone, then I hit two-million, and so on. I knew it wasn't really a worthwhile number, but it was something to keep watching increase. The more data the better. We're each odd in what inspires us to keep going.

As an aside, it was critical for me to learn that by marking "very, very hard" after the working set would often not increase my weight on the next exercise. This was disheartening to see my 1RM decrease. Now I put the truth, which is that I can almost always lift "1-2 more reps", and this keeps the weight gradually increasing each workout. I need to know that I'm improving. The more data the better. Yes, I do trust the app, but we like to "trust and verify", by seeing the data as we stick to the plan.

Thanks for voting for this feature -- it's done!

Inside the app, you can now view your total weight lifted (home page) and long-term data (top-right menu > training logs & charts). The charts can now show:

- Your average progress over your last 3 workouts
- Exercise by exercise data for 1 month, year, or all time.

To update:

- Open the store app on your phone
- Search for Dr. Muscle
- Tap update

You can also view this data on the Web at https://my.dr-muscle.com/.

Control the number of beeps when the timer finishes

Glen Acord 7 years ago updated by Carl Juneau, PhD 7 years ago 2

I'd like a way to control the number of beeps when the timer finishes. I like having a sound but the current amount is more than I want to hear.

Thank you for voting for this suggestion.

Our latest update now has just one "ding" chime. The update is public and available on Android and under review by Apple (give it 2-3 days). To update, visit the app store app on your phone, search for Dr. Muscle, and tap "update".

If you get a "Connection error" message after you update, log out and log back in. That should solve it.

I'm marking this suggestion as "Completed." Now would be a good time to suggest and vote for our next features on https://muscle.userecho.com/.

Big cheers,

Workout length estimation

Smallfrenchy 8 years ago updated by Carl Juneau, PhD 3 years ago 1

Foreach exercise in a workout, it is possible to know rest times, number of reps and number of sets. So it can be useful to estimate a workout length (with approximatively 5 or 6 seconds for each rep).

Il the workout selection list, or by tapping a workout, we can have the estimated length for the workout.

Answer

Supersets: automatically return to first exercise

Ben Besner 8 years ago updated by Carl Juneau, PhD 5 years ago 14

I find a little time consuming to do the manipulation when we tap on superset we go back to the exercise list, we choose the 2nd exercise (perfect), but after we return to the drop-down menu by tapping on superset again,we must re-choose the first exercise it from the exercise list.

I would like to come back directly to the first exercise from the 2nd. If the app could remember, that would be great !! -P

New exercises in rotation

Answer

This feature is now officially released, with update 877.

It is said that Milo of Croton gained enormous strength by lifting and carrying a newborn calf daily as it grew to a mature bull. Now you can do almost the same thing: with this update, your program will level up automatically as you do it. You’ll also always know exactly where you stand, with a countdown on your home screen.

Every time you level up, you’ll do new exercises and hit your muscles from new angles (this helps to hypertrophy them in full). Ready to become mighty like Milo? Simply work out with Dr. Muscle today.

Add equipment settings for machines

David Crandall 2 years ago updated by Patrick B 3 months ago 1

The gym I most often use has about 10 different strength machines and about as many cardio machines. There are no plates, no dumbbells, no benches, no chin-up bar, one very limited "pulley" (a lat pulldown machine with one overhead pulley and no other attachments), and no room for bodyweight exercises or calisthenics. Ideally, I should be able to select the specific types of equipment that are available (e.g. chest press, leg press, etc.) for the app to select exercises for. Right now the app only allows the user to select from 4 very broad categories rather than specific types of equipment, and none of the categories in the app currently even apply to my available equipment.

Once I have manually configured the exercises, the app does seem to do well in weight and rep assignments with appropriate progressions (now that I understand the rest-pause effect). This is half the battle, but I don't feel like I'm getting full use from the app because of the equipment and exercise selection issues.

AI ability to swap excercises / suggest an alternative when swapping

Stu A 2 years ago updated by Carl Juneau, PhD 13 hours ago 4

I do have a suggestion to improve the product though: where there is a substitute needed, the app should suggest an alternative (the closest exercise to providing the same training impact as the original) instead of letting the customer select one.

Hope this helps.

Add Ability To Link Smart Scale Weight Tracking

Austin 3 years ago updated by Carl Juneau, PhD 1 year ago 3

It would be awesome to not have to manually update my weight daily. I use a Withings scale which talks with my Apple Health and other body tracking apps but does not work with this one currently.

Answer
Carl Juneau, PhD 1 year ago

Thanks for voting for this feature! Customer Lou B recently confirmed this work via Apple Health:

"This is exactly the setup I have for my scale. And.... the Dr. Muscle App is picking up my weight daily. So I can confirm it works."

All-Time 1RM listed on Exercise Summary alongside current estimated 1RM

matthew brady27 3 years ago 0

Currently on the exercises summary you just see if you've performed better or worse than your last workout. This is great but can be somewhat misleading over a 6 month period for example because you might find yourself dropping performance (due to fatigue) and building back up to your old performance but not actually making any improvements on your 1RM over a 6 month period for example. You just yoyo up and down depending on your fatigue and fitness levels. This is why I think an All-Time 1RM listed on Exercise Summary alongside current estimated 1RM would be beneficial
