Steven Schwartz 6 years ago updated by Carl Juneau, PhD 1 year ago 3

I am a 70 year old male. 5’4” and 120 lbs. Not all muscle. When I see 65 lbs for a lat row, I se more than half my body weight. There should be some way to input weight and size.

Detailed weight increments

Sebastian Stolzenberg 6 years ago updated by Carl Juneau, PhD 2 years ago 7

Dear Dr. Muscle Team,

I really like the new weight increments feature you just added to your app. Unfortunately I'm a user of a PowerBlock dumbbell system, whose weight increment steps are not constant.

So, I would like to be able to manually enter the weights my system supports or - even better - just select my equipment from a list of preconfigured products.

I'm using the German version of PowerBlock U70. Please check the attached photo for the weights it supports.

Many thanks!

Sebastian

Thanks for voting for this feature -- it's in beta! From the announcement:

Excited to announce TWO of our top requested features. With this beta update, you’ll be able to hear yours truly say how many reps you have to do when your rest timer ends (e.g. “5 reps” instead of the usual “ding”). Toggle this on by tapping the timer icon top-right during any workout. Also, you can now customize your equipment in full for plates, dumbbells, and pulleys. This gives you full control over your increments, min, and max weights for exercises using those implements. Big thanks to all who voted for these features!

If you're in the beta:
On Android, you can already download the update. On iPhone? You'll have to wait 7-10 days for Apple to release it. To update:
– Open the store app on your phone
– Search for Dr. Muscle
– Tap update

Not in the beta? Click here to join: https://dr-muscle.com/beta-program/. Otherwise, you'll get a notification inside the app in 7-10 days when the public version comes out.

Now would be a good time to suggest and vote for our next feature. Please visit https://muscle.userecho.com/.

We've released 46 updates in 2021 (one a week or so). For the full list, see https://dr-muscle.com/timeline/.

Monthly view of workouts logged

Could we get a monthly calendar view or completed workouts?  Its nice to look back and see when I worked out last , how many days per week and what the rest days versus workout day pattern has been.  The image below is from Polar.com

For the Plank, I am using my own body weight and i held it for 1 min. there was no way to account for this. that might be something worth looking into.

Thanks for voting for this feature -- it's done! You can now create time-based custom exercises (and edit your existing custom exercises). Your time-based exercises will progress by adding seconds instead of weight or reps.

If you're on Android, you can update now. If you're on iPhone, you'll have to wait 2-3 days for Apple to approve it. To update:

- Open the store app on your phone
- Search for Dr. Muscle

Skip a Workout

Marc David 6 years ago updated by Carl Juneau, PhD 1 year ago 6

Bummer.. I'm injured.  But the app is saying I should be doing a lower body workout.

If I just click Finish and Save, it almost appears like it will move me to the next level if I keep doing that.

Do I just select an Upper Body workout?

I wish there was a Skip this Session so that it will not save any data but allow me to move to the next iteration.

Maybe that's how it works now?

Answer
Carl Juneau, PhD 1 year ago

Thanks for voting for this feature! It's done.

To skip a workout, simply Start a workout, scroll down, and tap Skip workout. Voilà!

Cardio guidance base on personal goals

Michael Tijerina 6 years ago updated by Carl Juneau, PhD 5 years ago 3

I would like to see cardio guidance base on personal goals, BF%, etc. With the exception of TrainingPeaks, which does not have a good intra-workout tracking system, I have not seen apps do this well.

Answer
Carl Juneau, PhD 5 years ago

Thanks for voting for this feature -- it's done!

To add a short HIIT session to your workouts, you can now simply toggle on “Cardio” in Settings. To add cardio to a single workout, add it as you would any other exercise (search for “HIIT Cardio”). Want more options? Let us know in the comments.

This is version 1225. If you're on Android, you can update now. If you're on iPhone, you'll have to wait 2-3 days for Apple to approve it. To update:

- Open the store app on your phone
- Search for Dr. Muscle

Import data from other apps

Christian Rigg 7 years ago updated by Mike 6 years ago 2

Strong and Fitocracy, for example, also allow one to export data – what a cool feature it would be if you could just import data from your last work-out app, and it would be all set up? It’s also a great selling feature: “Don’t lose all your hard work. Just import the data and go to the gym. An optimized workout will be ready for you based on your records.”

Add a pop up when all sets are done

Artin Entezarjou 7 years ago updated by Carl Juneau, PhD 6 years ago 3

Suggestion: add a pop up when all sets are done with a text along the lines of: "All required sets done! Would you like to move on to the next exercise or do more sets?

Answer
Carl Juneau, PhD 6 years ago

Thanks for voting for this feature -- it's done!

With the new fullscreen timer and interface, when you do sets:

1) You'll see the fullscreen timer between sets

2) After your last set, you won't see the fullscreen timer

3) Instead, the "Save set" button loses emphasis, and the "Finish and save" button gains emphasis (it becomes bold and filled white)

I think this accomplishes what you guys requested here, so I'm going to mark this one as completed. But after you try the new interface, if you feel it doesn't, please get back to me. Open to tweaking it to make it more to your liking.

Swap Out Exercise

Marc David 8 years ago updated by Carl Juneau, PhD 7 years ago 11

The ability in a workout to "swipe" away an exercise and pick another.  Maybe I don't like it but I like the pre-defined routine.  Maybe the equipment is taken by somebody and they'll never leave.  Or I have an injury and while I can't do a hip thrust, I could do a reverse hyperextension for the glutes.  Some method to dismiss a single exercise and the option to add or replace with another.

Answer
Carl Juneau, PhD 7 years ago

You can now swap an exercise mid-workout.

This update is now available to everyone on Android and under review on iPhone (Apple should approve it in 1-2 days).

I'm marking this as "Completed." Thanks to all who voted.
