Add "resistance bands" to the "show me only exercises I'm equipped for" under the Home Equipment Profile with the option to specify which band colors/weight ranges you have

Mark Seger 4 years ago updated by Carl Juneau, PhD 1 year ago 7

Add "resistance bands" to the "show me only exercises I'm equipped for" under the Home Equipment Profile with the option to specify which band colors/weight ranges you have. So the AI would treat resistance band workouts like using weights and increment the weights (bands) as rep ranges were met/exceeded. I tried setting up custom exercises for bands, but it treats them as bodyweight only (since that is how you have to classify them) and only increases reps. The present setup doesn't work well for capturing which bands are being used without a lot of workout modifications. With more people resorting to home gyms and resistance bands or a combination of them with weights, you would them lay a foundation to implement Dr. Muscle resistance band exercises and workouts. For now, I've had to stop using Dr. Muscle and go back to paper to track my workouts effectively.

AMRAP & EMOM Workouts

jjabrony 4 years ago 0

One of my most effective programs to get shredded was one that included a lot of EMOM and AMRAP workouts.

EMOM - Every Minute On the Minute

AMRAP - As Many Rounds As Possible

EMOMs typically includes 2 similar moves or the same move with heavy then light weight. Example:

10 minute EMOM - 5 Hammer Curls heavy, 5 Hammer curls light

I would then have a timer that dinged at each start of a minute. I would do my 5 heavy, immediately switch to my 5 light, then what ever time was left in that minute, I’d be allowed to rest. Once the timer dinged and the minute was up, rest time was over and I’d start the round over again.

AMRAPS typically included 3 moves, 2 similar and one that allowed those muscles to rest for a moment but still kept me moving.

10 minute AMRAP - 5 Incline bench barbell heavy, 5 incline bench dumbbells light, 15 crunches.

The timer was set for 10 minutes and I had to do as many rounds of that workout as I could during that time frame. Progress was tracked based on how many rounds I got thru each session.

These workouts were intense! And the results were some of the best I ever saw during the six week program I did.

I would love to see something on the app that let me set up these types of timers and round trackers and them progressively increased my weights or my reps the way the Dr Muscle app does do well!

Integrate with MyFitnessPal for nutrition (to review macros/caloric intakes and diets for subscribers)

Jacob Jones 5 years ago updated by Quentin D 4 months ago 2

Hello,

I would like to see a possible integration with MyFitnessPal, to allow a dietitian or nutritionist the ability to review macros/caloric intakes and diets for subscribers (perhaps every two months or more with a single use fee), also for those that the app flags as not making progress.

If a dietitian or nutritionist would be too expensive on your end, then since Dr.Muscle is a "AI" or Machine Learning App, you could make it to where your algorithm pulls data from the MyFitnessPal integration and compares macros/nutrient/calorie intake with gains/progress logged within the Dr.Muscle App. Then the algorithm could make suggestions such as adjusting macros and calories to match progress or the lack of progress.

I love the AI/Algorithm approach, upfront cost for you guys obviously, but then its just maintenance, but it would also be nice if users could buy a nutrition review and a dietitian or nutritionist who is experienced with body building/fitness could review the data that Dr. Muscle gathers from MyFitnessPal.

Just food for thought.

Thank you so much,

Jacob Jones

Control the amount of sets per exercise

Ray Snyder 6 years ago updated by Carl Juneau, PhD 5 years ago 1

I can control the exercises and I can control the reps, but I am unable to control the amount of sets per exercise. I would like a setting for that I think it's missing.

Answer

When I swap might be convenient if the app only showed me exercises that are a good replacement for that specific exercise

Weak point training

Stacy Lidell 7 years ago 0

Hi there Carl,

I was wondering if in the future there would be a way for the app to engineer weak point training. As a competitive bodybuiler, albeit a physique athlete, one is always trying to work on balance and symmetry. I just thought that this could be an awesome inclusion into the app (if possible of course) if it could come from a scientific background.

I am not sure how you would "teach" the app how to gauge the user's weak points but maybe this could be done via user-based feedback. So for example if I were able to tell the app which parts of my body I feel are lagging behind then it could readjust my programming to try and overcome those weak points.

Obviously I could program that in myself, but it would be amazing if this could be done in a scientific way by the app (utilising excercises shown to affect growth in said weak areas).

Kind Regards,

Stacy

Explanation of programming recommendations

Darren Cole 2 years ago updated by Carl Juneau, PhD 2 years ago 3

It would be really helpful to have more detailed descriptions of why certain recommendations are being made.  I can’t tell, for example, why the app sometimes recommends a very low number of reps (3 instead of normal range of 8-15), or gets me to do a Max session, or started a deload for a given exercise.

I know a lot of the time it’s just adding a rep or a weight increment for progressive overload but when ever it’s not doing that it (e.g. because you under performed last time on the exercise, at the end of the cycle, whatever the reason) would be helpful to know why.

Answer
Carl Juneau, PhD 2 years ago

Hi Darren,

Thanks for your feedback! Truly appreciate your suggestion for more detailed descriptions of the recommendations.

Currently, we have a feature that provides additional information about the logic behind your sets and reps for each exercise. During your first work set, you can look for the exclamation mark at the end of the yellow coach tip line. Tapping on the mark will give you more information about why specific recommendations are being made.

If you would like to see more information implemented in the app, please let us know where and how you would like it to be displayed. Really appreciate your input to improve the user experience.

Best,

Carl
