Good news! This feature is already inside the app. To create a custom exercise, do this:

Exercises (bottom nav) >
[+] button (bottom right)

Next, to swap it inside a workout on the fly, tap "..." and "swap" next to any exercise.

Thanks for your suggestion -- hope this makes sense. I'm marking it as completed.

Hi Ross. Amazing that you would develop open-source dashboards. Those would help many people. I just wrote to you on Messenger. Let's make this work.

Stephen, that's a great point. We build those message with the full-body, 3x / week program in mind. It's about time we make them work for the split program as well. Look for a fix in our new release (2-3 weeks).

Best,

Carl

Bob, you're absolutely right. This topic is one year old and we've since updated the app to show "If you're using dumbbells, enter the weight for one hand" and walk users through unilateral exercises with popups for "Side 1" and "Side 2". So, I'm marking this as completed.

Joel, I wouldn't advise you do the unilateral exercises that way, for reasons Bob explained (thx Bob!). But if you still want to do it, you can create custom exercises that are not unilateral and swap them in. Simply replace the ones the app uses by yours, and you'll be good to go.

Big thanks for all who voted for this topic.

Hi Marc,

Open timer menu (top-right) >
Enter your target duration in the box at the top (e.g. 60 sec) >
Start >
When timer rings, close timer menu and save your set

This should work. I'm marking this topic as completed, but feel free to email us at support@drmuscleapp.com if you have more questions.

Cheers!

Carl

Good point Cristian: we built that feature (and those comments) with the full-body program in mind. We could certainly have a separate set of recommendations for users on a split-body program.

Thank you for your suggestion Dan. You can change your perceived effort, but I agree it could be easier. Here's how:

When you work out, the app will ask you how hard your set was after your first work set

Delete any work sets you've done after the first to get the rating question again

Enter your new (correct) rating

Save your extra work sets again

Finish your exercise

If you've already finished and saved the exercise, delete it from your logs (history page) and enter it again with the correct information. I realise that's all a bit cumbersome so I look forward to simplifying the process when this suggestion becomes top voted.

Best,

Carl

Thanks for voting for this feature -- it's done! You can now level up custom programs you create inside the app or via our Web app. This lets you link programs together over long training cycles and change exercises, rep ranges, and more over time. I would only recommend that for avanced users who know what they're doing.

Thanks for voting for this feature -- it's done! You can now create time-based custom exercises (and edit your existing custom exercises). Your time-based exercises will progress by adding seconds instead of weight or reps.
