Hi Yohann,
I can understand your point, but as Glen said, sometimes people will do fewer reps than recommended for other reasons than all-out failure. In those cases, I still want them to be able to tell the app how many reps they had in reserve.
You said you don't really understand it, so if you'd like to read more about this concept, you can check out:
http://drmuscleapp.com/news/reps-in-reserve/ ("If your sets are easy and you have many reps in reserve, Dr. Muscle will push you harder. If your sets are hard and you have zero reps in reserve, Dr. Muscle won’t increase your weight at all.")
https://www.strongerbyscience.com/weekly-load-progression/ (see section 3, "Rating of Perceived Exertion (RPE)")
I'm going to mark your suggestion as declined for now, but I'm open to changing that in the future if need be.
Thank you,
Carl
We've just released normal sets! Normal sets:
- Are better for strength development
- Can be safer for multi-joint lifts (especially if you carry them to failure)
- Downside: they take more time
The update is already available on Android and under review by Apple (give it 2-3 days). To update, visit the app store app on your phone, search for Dr. Muscle, and tap "update".
If you get a "Connection error" message after you update, please log out and log back in. That should solve it.
By the way, I hate to say it, but we're aware of small bug with the timer's "automatch reps" feature (only for normal sets). Because of the bug, it won't time 2 to 3 minutes even when the app recommends that. To get around the bug, toggle "automatch reps" off and set the timer manually to 2-3 minutes. We're working on that bug, and it will be fixed soon.
Thank you for patience and support as we improve the app, and for voting for this feature. if you can spare the time, now would be a good time to vote for our next feature. You can do so here: https://muscle.userecho.com/communities/1-submit-your-feedback/topics#.
Thanks!
Carl
I can definitely understand your confusion here Glen, and since we've just released normal sets, this update is now coming soon. I'm marking it as "planned".
Hi Mathew,
Thank you for your suggestion. It's already been suggested. Please vote for the original suggestion here: https://muscle.userecho.com/communities/1/topics/12-images-or-videos-for-exercises. It already has quite a few votes ;)
I'm closing off this suggestion to prevent duplicates.
Cheers,
Carl
Hi David,
1) Vote for that feature: https://muscle.userecho.com/communities/1/topics/67-weight-control-for-available-dumbbells-and-plate-sizes
2) For now, when you don't have the exact weight, you should round up. Enter how many repetitions you did.
- If you can do all the recommended reps with the higher weight, great!
- If not, no problem. Just enter what you did.
The app will adjust, and you'll keep making progress. To be honest, it will not make a big difference in your progression, especially long-term.
Hi Martin,
Thank you for your vote and suggestions.
To your point of:
> enter a new 1RM for each exercise that the app bases its calculations on.
You can currently reset an exercise and enter a new 1RM. But this will erase your history. To reset, tap "..." next to an exercise, and tap "Reset". I understand this may not be exactly what you're looking for, and I see this suggestion is getting more and more votes, so hopefully, we'll implement it soon.
Thank you for your help and support. Really appreciate the support from forward-thinking lifters like yourself.
Fixed with the latest update.
This has been included in the latest update (see image):

The update is in beta on Android and under review by Apple (give it 1-2 days). Look for a public release early next week. To update, visit the app store app on your phone, search for Dr. Muscle, and tap "update".
Thanks for voting for this suggestion guys. To vote for our next feature, visit: https://muscle.userecho.com/.
